About Newtownstewart
Newtownstewart is itself a town steeped in history and legend. The town name is derived from Sir William Stewart and the ruins of Stewart Castle can be seen from the 18th Century arched bridge. There are many other notable features in the area including the l4th century Harry Avery's castle and the traditional townscape, which dates back from the plantation period.

Local Attractions
Grange Court is ideally suited to discover the attractions of the North/West Passage route, attractions in the area include:

- Ulster American Folk Park
The award-winning Ulster-American Folk Park at Gamphill, Omagh, grew up around the cottage where Thomas Mellon, the founder of one of the greatest family dynasties of new America. Emigration is the main theme of the Ulster-American Folk Park.

- Sperrin Heritage Centre
Situated in the midst of the Sperrin Mountains, an area of outstanding natural beauty, The Sperrin Heritage Centre uses innovative presentation techniques to convey the environmental significance of this scenic landscape. It's “Treasure of The Sperrins Exhibition" interprets many interesting aspects of life of the region from it's geological composition to wildlife in their natural habitat, as well as offering an insight into local rural life. Moreover, Jimmy the resident ghost tells a few tall tales and takes a look at some of the more unconventional local customs.

- Castlederg Visitors Centre
Equipped with an innovative video wall, with presentations in Irish, English, French, and German, Castlederg past and present is celebrated in ten different and exciting stories. These not only allow the visitor to sample the richness of the area but also highlight several interesting connections, including Davy Crockett, King Of The Wild Frontier and Joe Sheridan, creator of Irish Coffee.

- Grays Printers Museum
Nestling behind a unique Georgian facade on Main Street, this remarkable building is notable for it's unspoilt charm. It houses an impressive selection of nineteenth century presses complemented by an impressive audio visual entitled 'The Power of Print'. This exhibition pays tribute to Strabane's illustrious historic connections as well as the town's industrial printing heritage. An experienced compositor visits on occasions to give demonstrations.

- Wilson Ancestral Home
Take a step back in time and enter the world of the ‘Whitehouse’ at the Wilson Ancestral Homestead. Guided tours during the months of July/August give an insight into the history behind our rich Ulster American connections and how the fate of the 28th Presidency of the United States was to lie in the hands of local man James Wilson.

- Gortin Glens Forest Park
Gortin Glen Forest Park is draped over the western flank of Mullaghcarn – wander along the Pollan Burn, bright with dragonflies through the forest with its majestic Sitka spruce.


Activity Breaks
You can choose from a range of sport and leisure activities available locally, including:

Fishing - The town is at the confluence of two excellent fishing rivers, the Mourne and the Owenkillew. There are approximatley 29 miles of river available for fishing - Salmon, Sea Trout and Brown Trout are available. Fly fishing is exceptionally good. Visitors licences are avilable locally.

Shooting - The Sperrin Mountains are the best part of Ulster for rough game shooting - pheasant, woodcock, pigeon, hares and rabbits. Organised shoots available - further details on request. Clay pigeon shooting also available.

Horse Riding - Pony trekking available locally.

Golf - Less than 2 miles from the centre, Newtownstewart Golf Club, one of the finest 18 hole courses in Tyrone. Pitch and Putt and Golf Driving Range also available locally.

Cycling/Walking - As part of the North West Passage route the area offers many roads suitable for cycling and walking with fine panoramic views.
